1 Day 1 Night Cultural Experience in Muang La District

Highlights:

Itinerary:

  • Morning(8:30 AM): Our guide will meet you at your accommodation and guides you to the designated meeting point. Enjoy a scenic walking around the Maungla. (approx. 3- hour walk)
  • Late Morning: Pray the buddha of the Prachaosingkham temple and walk around the temple on trail 0.5-hour. Walk to join the locals in soaking in the warm, mineral-rich water

(temperature can reach over 45°C/113°F). Continue walking surround the town, during the way we will see daily lives of local people, how they are working in ricefields on both beside of the road, in the whole villages, see House-building culture, Culture and Way of life: Weaving activity, Crop cultivation and animal rearing, Teaching the correct English pronunciation to students. Visit the minority local market is one of the places to see local people from Khmu, Laoloum, the villagers come to sell their fruits, vegetables, non-timber forest products and crafts.The market is also a great place to get to know local food such as Mokpa, grill fish, pork crackling,…………….. and local sweets. You can choose to buy some foods as in menu to cook at home. And then we learn cooking the Maungla localfood

such as: learn to make stickyrice, Green papaya salad, Spicy minced meat salad, Blood soup or Blood stew, Bamboo soup,  Fry Kaipan, Soypanin…..

At 02:30 PM:   Arrive at a traditional Khmu house. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by the community and participate in a traditional Baci Ceremony – a centuries-old ritual of tying white cotton strings around your wrists to invite goodluck, health, and harmony. This is a deeply meaningful way to connect with Khmu culture.

Evening: Enjoy a home-cooked dinner featuring authentic Meuangla dishes. Then gather around a campfire or in the village hall to watch a captivating local folk art performance– Traditional dance, music with instruments like the Khene, and possibly storytelling dances. ( Especially, you have a chance to participate in a Khmu New Year Festival, also known as BounGrer, is one of the most important cultural celebrations of the Khmu people in Lao. It is held every year from January 01 to 10. During the festival, people wear traditional Khmu clothing and gather in their villages to take part in cultural activities).
