Cultural Highlights and Activities
WarmWelcom: Arrive at a village and be greeted with fragrant local tea and a cheerful blessing ritual.
Village Life: Explore villages of traditional bamboo and wooden stilt houses and learn about the Akha way-their intricate system of beliefs.
Traditional Dress: See the famous headdresses up close-dazzling with silver coins and beads, with different styles identifying sub-groups like the Lomi, Ulo, and Phami.
Hands-on Crafts: Join an interactive embroidery session to create your own keepsake or observe traditional weaving techniques.
Cooking: Learn to cook traditional Akha dishes using fresh, unique ingredients. Enjoy your meal and maybe sample some local Akha whiskey.
Music and Dance: In the evening, join the community for lively group dances and traditional rhythms.
Daily Life: Chat with farmers in the fields, work alongside them on terraced coffee – rice – cone plantations and learn a few words of the Akha language.
Itinerary:
Morning (8:30 AM): Pick up from your guest-house. Our guide`ll meet you at your accommodation and transfer you to the trailhead. Enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside(approx. 4- hour drive). Direct to Ano Village about 32 KM, on the mountain, stopping at the first Village KHAMU ethnic group and walking around the village 15 minutes. From here, continue to visit collection of Hmong ethnic group Pangpor Village. It is only 5% of the minority the population of La District Oudomxay. And learn about their lifestyle, culture and language. After that going on travel to Akha ethnic group, during the way take a break at upper secondary school for picnic lunch and teach the correct English pronunciation to students for 15 minutes. Continue to Ban Ano, a large village of around 2,566 inhabitants. Walk around the village to seeing lifestyle and touching their lives by talking to people, drink alcohol made from rice. See handicraft production like weaving activity as well as horse rising and walk up to former airstrip to see the whole scenery of the village. a vehicle will be waiting to take you back to town at 3:30 PM.
Afternoon: Arrive at a traditional Khamu village. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by the community and take part in a sacred Baci Ceremony or Soukhuan Ceremony– a centuries-old ritual of tying white
cotton strings around your wrists to invite goodluck, health, and harmony. This is a deeply meaningful way to connect with Khamu culture.
Evening: Savour a home-cooked dinner featuring authentic Lao dishes. Then gather around a campfire or in the village hall to watch a captivating local folk art performance– Traditional dance, music with instruments like the Khene, and possibly storytelling dances.
